Effective witnessing

In order for followers of Christ to be effective witnesses, they have to know people who are not Christians. And not only know them, but understand them, without letting your own life turn into theirs.

I probably have as many friends outside the church as inside, and through the years I have gained an understanding of them.

A recent article in the "Pentecostal Evangel" detailed some of the characteristics of these friends:

1) They reject the Church most of the time, but they may not have rejected God.

2) They are often adrift, but truly do want an anchor in life.

3) They resist rules and ecclesiastical regulations but respond to reason. (Isaiah 1:18 is my favorite verse which starts, "Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD.")

4) Non-Christian friends have legitimate questions but they don't usually expect any real answers from believers.

5) They are more concerned whether Christianity WORKS than if it's true.

6) They want to be someone's friend more than someone's project.

7) Non-churched people are not loyal to organizations or denominations, but will be very attracted to where their needs will be met.

Well, these are good helps to me. I want people to love God. I don't want to turn them off by coming across as a know-it-all, holier-than-thou person.

People all over the world are looking for some solid answers to life.

Just like you and me, they are looking for:

Security, significance, love and fulfillment.

And we all know that only JESUS can meet those needs !

Christian, do you have the understanding and compassion required to show them?

Jesus said we are to be the light of the world. That means we have to impact the darkness.
